Statement of Faith

As you learn about what we believe, it is important to understand the heart with which we proclaim it. The S.H.I.E3.L.D. Community is a Christ-centered, inter-denominational, and non-traditional ministry. The teaching of Jesus Christ is the core of everything we do and we believe the message of Christ needs to be effective in our present society which may not align with traditional rituals. We are inter-denominational rather than non-denominational because all of those who believe the foundations of our faith, the apostle's creed, have the revelation of Jesus Christ, and we respect their views even when we do not agree with all of them as we “walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, being diligent to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:1-3). John said we determine our brother by our love for God and one another and he who has the Spirit of God by his belief that Jesus Christ came in the flesh. (1 John chps. 1-5). We can love and walk with all Christ-centered denominations, even when there are aspects of belief disagreed upon. Further, our statement of faith is as dynamic as our revelation of Christ. We aim to continue learning and growing in Him with all wisdom and knowledge.

With that in mind and heart, here is our statement of faith.

  • We believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. He is God made flesh who dwelt among men and did not know sin. Jesus is the Living Word (Logos), the perfect expression and intention of God the Father. (Matthew 16:16, John 1:1, Hebrews 1:3)

  • We believe in the triune God; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19)

  • We believe that in the Lord Jesus Christ dwells the fullness of Godhead in bodily form. (Colossians 2:9)

  • We believe that God, Jesus Christ, entered a sinful world and gave Himself, submitting to death, delivering mankind from the curse of the law of Sin and Death and the power of sin. (Romans 8:2, Hebrews 7:27, Hebrews 10:10, 1 Peter 3:18)

  • We believe that the written Word of God is fully inspired by the Holy Spirit and is good for doctrine. (2 Timothy 3:16)

  • We believe that to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, and strength and to love our neighbor as ourselves is the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 22:37-40)

  • We believe in the foundational doctrines of Christ; repentance from dead works and faith toward God, baptisms and laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. (Hebrews 6:1-2)

  • We believe that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead you are saved. (Romans 10:9)

  • We believe in the resurrection of the dead, both the just and the unjust. (Daniel 12:2)

  • We believe God has given believers a covenant promise of blessing, both spiritual and natural. (John 10:10, Ephesians 1:3, Hebrews 6:14)

  • We believe we are to follow the example of Jesus regardless of societal norms and beliefs. (Romans 1:16, 1 Corinthians 11:1)

  • We believe the gospel of Jesus Christ is present truth and is progressive and dynamic in its revelation and application. (Romans 1:17, 16:25-26, 2 Corinthians 3:18)

  • We believe in the Great Commission to go into all the world and make disciples of all men. (Matthew 28:19-20)
